Bashundhara Kings beat Chennai City FC by 3-2 in SK International Club Cup

Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Champions Bashundhara Kings tasted the first victory in their 2nd match to stay in the eight-team Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup Football Tournament race beating Chennai City FC of India by 3-2 goals at the MA Aziz Stadium here on Thursday. 

Lebanese striker Mohamad Kdouh netted twice and Kyrgyz midfielder Bakhtiyar Duishobekov scored one goal for Bashundhara Kings while Uruguayan-Spanish forward Pedro Manzi and forward Mashoor Shereef scored one goal each for current I-League champions Chennai City FC. 

Mohamad Kdouh opened the account for Bashundhara Kings in the very 6th minute sending the ball home by a left-footer volley from inside the box, off a cross of Costa Rica’s World Cup-playing footballer Daniel Colindres (1-0). 

After conceding the goal, Chennai City FC started an attacking football. 

In the 24th minute, the match was stopped for about eight minutes as Japanese midfielder of Chennai City FC Katsumi Yusa got involved in a clash with Spanish Coach of Bashundhara Kings Oscar Bruzon and Sri Lankan referee Lakmal Weerakkody. 

After the match was resumed, Yusa got the marching order receiving red card for the offense.    

The 10-man Indian club finally levelled the margin in the 43rd minute as their forward Pedro Manzi found the net by a close-range grounder from inside the box with the 2nd attempt while forward Mashoor Shereef missed the first one (1-1). 

In the stoppage time of the first half, Bashundhara Kings’ Oscar Bruzon again got involved in a clash to receive a red card.  

In the 59th minute, midfielder Bakhtiyar Duishobekov widened the margin for Bashundhara Kings by a header, off a cross from Daniel Colindres (2-1). 

Chennai City FC were reduced to nine-man in the 68th minute as their Spanish centre back Roberto Eslava Suarez was sent off after receiving second yellow card in the match.

In the 71st minute, Mashoor Shereef levelled the margin for Chennai City FC by a bicycle kick from the danger zone from a counter attack (2-2). 

After conceding the shocking goal, Bashundhara created several close chances to widen their margin but failed to convert any for lack of finishers. 

In the 89th minute, Mohamad Kdouh finally scored the match winner by a grounder from inside box when Chennai City goalkeeper Nauzet Santana failed to grab the ball (3-2).
