Bangladesh Men'sU-23 Football Team's gold mission in the ongoing 13th South Asian Games has faded as they played a 1-1 draw with the Maldives on Tuesday at the Dasharath Rangasala Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal in a vital 2nd league match.

In the other game days, Nepal holders made a flying start outplaying all Bhutan losers by 4-0 goals on Tuesday afternoon at the same venue.

Bangladesh's team desperately needed a win in the day's match against the Maldives to remain in the final race of the five-nation football games after suffering a humiliating 0-1 goal loss in the opener against lowly Bhutan, failed to reach their target despite leading the day's match up to 70th minute.

With the day's frustrating draw, the Bangladesh team's gold mission in the SA Games became uncertain after clinching gold games in Kathmandu in 1999 and in Dhaka in 2010 as they bagged only point from two ongoing meeting outings.

Nonetheless, even if they win their remaining two games, Bangladesh has a small chance of reaching the final. On Thursday (December 5), Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka at 5:15 pm, and on December 8, host and defending champions will face Nepal at 5:15 pm, all at the same stadium.

In the crucial match of the day, Jamal Bhuiyan–led Bangladesh took over from Maldives captain Akram Abdulk Ghani in the 30th minute with a suicidal goal.

Riadul Hasan made a header off a throw-in from the custodian of Rabiul Hasan and the Maldives, but the ball kissed the net hitting the Akram Abdul Ghani (1-0).

With the frustration of Bangladesh (1-1), Ibrahim Mahudi Hussain restored parity for the Maldives in the 70th minute with an angular shot from the danger zone.

Two top teams will play at the same venue in the final on December 10 after completion of the league foundation games.
