England has achieved a historic victory. Australia dropped out of 144-2 to 207. England's win by 24 runs to Level Series 1-1.

World Champion England claimed an impressive 24-run win as Australia collapsed in the second one-day international event at Old Trafford, BBC reports.

Chasing 232 to win the series, Australia sailed 144-2 before Chris Woakes and Jofra Archer crashed four wickets for three runs in 21 balls.

A reeling Australia lost their final eight wickets in 63 runs as they were in 207, despite a good last-wicket partnership of 31 between Alex Carey and Josh Hazlewood.

England collapsed earlier to 149-8, with the leg-spinner Adam Zampa taking 3-36 before Adil Rashid and Tom Curran moved them to 231-9.

Captain Eoin Morgan said that he wanted his side to learn how to "win ugly" and that he would be happy with how they dragged themselves back into the game.

Archer was as offensive as he was to England, threatening the opening batsmen first before returning to the Woakes attack and causing a collapse.

As good as England was, this was an almost incredible collapse from Australia, which had provided wickets with bad shots, no foot movement, and a generally bewildered air.
