To help Nazmul XI reach the top of the points table in the ongoing BCB Presidents Cup, young batting prodigy Afif Hossain scored a scintillating 98-run knock.

In the fourth game of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium tournament on Saturday, Nazmul XI demolished Mahmudullah XI with 131 runs to make a huge move towards the BCB President's Cup final.

In response to Nazmul XI's 264-8, Mahmudullah XI came up with clueless batting to be wrapped up for 133 in 32.1 overs, which helped Nazmul XI secure their second victory in three matches, and both victories came against Mahmudullah XI.

By 42 runs, they lost their only match to Tamim XI, although Mahmudullah XI registered a four-wicket win over Tamim XI in comparison. Mushfiqur Rahim, who struck a century in the previous match, continued his good form with 52 to provide adequate support for Afif.

With 31 ball-44 not out, Irfan Shukkur was the other visible scorer, which helped the side propel past 250. Afif and Mushfiqur shared 147-runs after Nazmul XI, who was sent to bat first, was left to titter 31-3 for the fourth wicket stand. But Afif dominated the stand, clattering a dozen boundaries and one six.

He played vigorously to deny the use of initial batting collapse by Mahmudullah XI bowlers.

To open his account, Mushfiqur Rahim took 16 balls and still looked a little nervous, but he still found some way to cross fifty balls out of 88.

Meanwhile, Afif approached his century, but only declined to be caught running out because of the confusion between him and Mushfiqur Rahim.

However, Mushfiqur couldn't last long after Afif 's dismissal, as Ebadot Hossain dismissed him for 52 out of 92 with just one boundary.

Towhid Ridoy and Irfan Shukkur, who added 70 runs, utilized the platform set by Mushfiqur and Afif well. Before being dismissed by Ebadot, Ridoy scored 27, but Shukkur demonstrated his great hitting prowess in the death overs to hold Nazmul XI rolling.

Nazmul XI set a challenging target for Mahmudullah XI thanks to his massive hit, which included four boundaries and two sixes.

Rubel Hossain, the fast bowler, snapped up 3-53 while Ebadot Hossain snatched 2-60. Mahmudullah XI, led by Mahmudullah Riyad, was not close to contesting the score because at frequent intervals they lost wickets to make it harder for themselves.

With run-a-ball-27 runs that included five fours and 36 ball-27 not out respectively, Liton Das and Nurul Hasan Sohan were the joint top scorer for them. Apart from them, no batsman could cross 20 runs, a testament to how poorly they fared. Opener Imrul Kayes started to rot as he edged one off Al-Amin Hossain's bowling for 4 to wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim.

Mominul Haque looked confident, but before the left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed came up with a double blow, Liton and Mahmudul Hasan Joy (13) were dismissed for unlucky 13. In fact, before crossing the 100 runs mark, they were six down, making it clear that the match would be one-sided.

Though leg-spinenr Rishad Ahmed bagged two to rip apart Mahmudullah XI's batting line up, Pacer Abu Jayed Rahi and Nasum Ahmed snared three wickets each.

Brief Score: Nazmul XI 264-8 in 50 overs (Afif 98, Mushfiqur 52, Shukkur 44, Ridoy 27, Emon 19; Rubel 3-53, Ebadot 2-60, Sumon Khan 1-52)

Mahmudullah XI 133 all out in 32.1 overs (Liton Das 27, Nurul Hasan Sohan 27 not out, Mehidy Miraz 16; Nasum 3-23, Rahi 3-34, Rishad 2-26)

Result: Nazmul XI wins by 131 runs.
