Sheikh Russel ease past Brothers Union in BPL 2-1

Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra, the country's top tier outfit, beat Brothers Union Limited by 2-1 goals in their first match at Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) on Friday night, to a winning start in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2020-21.

Forward Md Abdullah and Brazilian forward Giancarlo Lopes each scored one for Sheikh Russel while one for Brothers Union was netted by Congolese forward cum captain Siyo Zunapio.

Sheikh Russel, who finished third in BPL 2018-19, opened the account with the day's victory, winning 3 points in the ongoing league's point table.

At BNS, Sheikh Russel took the lead in the 13th minute, while forward Abdullah scored from a free kick (1-0). As Brothers goalkeeper Mohiuddin Ranu did a foul gripping the ball outside the box, Sheikh Russel was awarded with the free-kick.

Brazilian forward Lopes doubled the margin only after three minutes, while Brothers goalkeeper Ranu left his post blank to clear a long throw-in in the 16th minute from Russel Kyrgyz midfielder Baktyir Duishobekov (2-0).

Brothers Congolese forward cum captain Zunapio decreased the gap in the 32nd minute, correctly converting a penalty shot (2-1). As Sheikh Russel midfielder Didarul Haque committed a handball inside the box, Brothers Union were rewarded with a penalty.
