Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club beat Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity by 22 runs in their first game in the Bangabandhu Premier Division T20 Cricket League on Monday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Nurul Hasan-led Sheikh Jamal won the toss and batted first. Riding on the 73-run opening stand by Shykat Ali and Mohammad Ashraful, they posted 166 for six in 20 overs.

Former Bangladesh captain Ashraful was playing well, but due to a misunderstanding with the skipper Nurul Hasan, he fell prey to run-out while running for a double. After completing the first run, Nurul stopped at one end, and Ashraful was running to complete the second run but fell short.

Both Shykat and Ashraful scored 38 each. Nurul Hasan, Tanbir Hayder, and Enamul Haque also contributed well with the bat scoring 22, 17, 20 respectively. Nasir Hossain, the right-handed allrounder, suffered a duck.  For Khelaghar, right-arm pacer Khaled Ahmed bagged two wickets.

In reply, Khelhaghar tumbled for 144 for eight in 20 overs. Imtiaz Hossain was the highest runs getter for them scoring 26 runs while Masum Khan, Salman Hossain, and Farhad Hossain scored 22, 21, and 20 respectively.

Left-arm spinner Elias Sunny took three wickets while Salauddin Sakil and Abdul Halim bagged two wickets each to seal the game by 22 runs.

A total of 12 clubs are taking part in this league, which is being played in T20 format this year. Last year’s league was canceled due to the Covid-19 outbreak throughout the country.
