We told you about the record set for going fastest on two wheels and now a stunt driver from China has set a new one and this time it involves a MINI and the Nurburgring. Multiple record holder Han Yue drove a full 20.81 kilometre lap of the Nordschleife and set a new world record for the longest distance driven in a car on its side wheels.
Now, we have to remind you here that the Nordschleife isn't exactly a parking lot or a flat expanse of asphalt. There are twists, turns, hairpin bends and the elevations are all part of the experience which puts the fear of God in most race drivers. So, going through all of that sideways and on two wheels, clearly calls for some expertise.

Han drove the R56 generation MINI Cooper S which had a few modifications like a full roll cage, race seats and harness and of course unique tyres to take all the strain. There were special wheel hubs used on the tyres to allow them to fit. The sidewalls of the tyres had to be strong to take all the weight the car for a good 20 km. Previous distance records have been limited to a couple of kilometres, and this one clearly needed tyres to handle more.

It wasn't the fastest lap around the Nordschleife as was quite possibly the slowest ever as it took 45 minutes to complete one lap, but then again it was the difficulty of the attempt that needs to be taken into consideration.
