Australia beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in the second and final test to level the series 1-1 at Chittagong's Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Thursday.

Chasing 86 for victory on the penultimate day of the contest, Australia made 87-3. Glenn Maxwell top scored with an unbeaten 25.

Bangladesh won the series opener in Dhaka by 20 runs, their first test victory against Australia.

After taking a first innings lead of 72 runs, the Australians have wrecked the Bangladesh batting line-up on Thursday.

Nathan Lyon was the star among the bowlers, completing a 10-wicket haul for the first time in a Test match in Asia.

The Australian off-spinner, who has taken six for 60 in the second innings, has been well supported by left-arm spinner Steve O’Keefe (2 for 29) and quickie Pat Cummins (2/47).

Having lost eight batsmen at tea, Bangladesh (157 all out) were cleaned up quickly in the third session on a wearing Chittagong pitch.

The home team won the first Test in Mirpur.

Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (31) was the top scorer for Bangladesh in the second innings.
