Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that his country is open to cooperation with NATO as the Western Alliance's two-day summit in the UK, the statesman reports.

Putin said, "We have expressed readiness consistently to fight real threats jointly," according to Russian news media.

He called these common threats "international terrorism, local armed conflicts and the danger of unnecessary violence"

Russia is "obliged to see the expansion of NATO, the development of its near-border military infrastructure as one of the potential threats to the security of our country," he said.

Earlier on Monday, Putin signed a controversial law allowing for the labeling of independent journalists and bloggers as "foreign agents," including US President Donald Trump for the NATO Summit in the UK.

The UK goes to the polls on December 12, with Johnson aiming to win a mandate and push the country out of the European Union with his brexit agreement.
