All four people convicted in the rape and murder case of Indian Hyderabad veterinarian were killed in a Shadnagar police encounter, sources reported.

Police said the four suspects were shot dead in an incident on the NH-44 near Hyderabad on Friday morning— the same highway where 26-year-old Disha's burnt body was found.

As per the initial reports, as they tried to escape, the four suspects were taken to the location to reconstruct the crime scene.

Nationwide protests broke out after a 26-year-old woman's burnt body was found on November 28 in an underpass on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The 26-year-old veterinary doctor was smothered, assaulted and then burned by four people at night, and her body was found on November 28 on a culvert on the national highway between Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

The four suspects had punctured her scooter's rear wheel, offered to help her, pulled her to a secluded spot near a toll plaza, and assaulted her, according to the Cyberabad police. It said the woman died as a result of suffocation and her body was then burned by the defendant.

On November 29, the Cyberabad police arrested four people in connection with their involvement in the case of rape and murder.

The suspects have been named as Mohammad Areef, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen and Chennakeshavulu Chintakunta. The first suspect in the case was Mohammad Areef (25), who served as a driver.

The four defendants had been sent to court jail for 14 days in the brutal gangrape and murder of a female veterinary surgeon.
