As the Commission on Presidential Debates announced in a Friday statement, the next presidential debate between US President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has been scrapped.

The upcoming debate scheduled for October 15 was canceled by the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD), which was changed from an in-person gathering to a virtual conference after Trump and a number of other White House individuals tested positive for COVID-19 last week.

"It is now clear that no debate will take place on 15 October and that the CPD will turn its attention to the preparations for the final presidential debate scheduled for 22 October," the commission said in a statement.

"Subject to health security concerns, the debate will take place at Belmont University in Nashville , Tennessee, in compliance with all necessary checking, masking, social distancing and other protocols," the statement continued.

On Thursday evening, White House physician Sean Conley released a statement stating that by this weekend, Trump will be able to host public events again.

The Trump campaign, according to The Post report, demanded that an additional debate be scheduled for October 29, which was not accepted by the commission.

The first debate between Trump and Biden, held on September 29, saw a heated and often ugly exchange of words between the two candidates.
