6 children return home after languishing in Indian jail

Six Bangladeshi children, including three girls, returned home through Benapole check post on Monday night after serving one year jail term in an Indian prison.

The returnees were Sakib, 10, son of Jewel, Akash Sheikh, 7, son of Amirul Sheikh, Romeem Sheikh, 10, son of Ali Sheikh, Tina Mondol, 12, daughter of Alauddin, Jesmin Akter, 12, daughter of Billal Hossain, Roksana, 13, daughter of Morsed Ali, hailing from Chittagong and Narail districts.

Indian police handed them over to Benapole immigration police.

Omar Sharif, officer-in-charge of Benapole check post police, said that the returnees entered the Indian territory one and half years back without valid documents through Jessore border points in search of good job.

Later, Indian police arrested them from Kolkata and a case was filed against them.

Later, an Indian court sentenced them to one year imprisonment and sent them to Kolkata Central Jail.

Apurbo Hasan, officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station, said they handed them over to human right organisation - Rights Jessore - to return them to their respective families.
