Prime Minister's Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Affairs Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury today said about 80 million cubic feet gas will be shipped from the Bhola gas field to be added to the national grid in two to three months.

"None of us know in which direction the global situation will go. So, everyone should be prepared. Within the next two to three months, 80 million cubic feet of gas will be shipped from the Bhola gas field and added to the national grid," he said.

Tawfiq-e-Elahi said this while speaking as the chief guest at an event on "Mitigation of the Impact of Energy Crisis on the Industrial Sector" organised by Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) at a hotel in the city.

President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Md Jashim Uddin attended the event as the guest of honour while President of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) Mohammad Ali Khokon, President of the Bangladesh Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) Md Saiful Islam, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Faruque Hassan and President of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) Mahbubul Alam, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) retired professor Retd) Dr Ijaz Hossain delivered the keynote presentation.

In his speech, Tawfiq-e-Elahi informed that some coal-based power plants will come into production soon.

"Then, we would be able to reduce the gas supply for electricity generation and give some gas for industrial use. If the situation does not improve after this, we may have to refrain from using any electricity during the day if necessary," he added.

He urged all to be economical in using the electricity to ensure electricity supply for all, especially in industries.
