8 lakh flood-affected farmers to get agro aid

Bangladesh government will be providing Tk 137 crore assistance to rehabilitate nearly eight lakh flood-hit farmers of the country including Haor regions.

They will be provided with fertilisers, seed and cash, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury said in a press briefing at her ministry office this morning.

The Haor regions of Bangladesh saw a flash-flood in April this year. In August, the country was flooded in intense monsoon and rush of water in the rivers from upstream.

Government’s agro aid for the flood-affected victims will be distributed to 7,76,000 farmers across 24 districts with an aim for rehabilitation, the minister said.
