The Supreme Court will hold further hearing on the appeals in the sensational Saudi embassy official Khalaf Al Ali murder case.

The court fixed October 17 for the hearing. Today, the apex court was scheduled to deliver verdict on the appeals in that case.

The Apex Court fixed the date as a convicted accused Saiful Islam Mamun’s advocate on record told the Supreme Court that no lawyer had appeared for Mamun.

Mamun had decided to engage a lawyer for placing argument on his behalf.

Then the three-member bench of the Appellate Division decided to hold further hearing on the Appeal.

On December 30, 2012, a Dhaka court gave the death sentence to Saiful Islam Mamun, Al Amin, Rafiqul Islam Khokon, Akbar Ali Lalu, and Selim Chowdhury for the killing.

Following appeals filed by the convicts, the HC on November 18, 2013 acquitted Selim, who is on the run, upheld the death sentence on Saiful and sentenced Al Amin, Khokon and Lalu to life term imprisonments.

Later, the government filed three appeals with the SC seeking the death sentence for the five.
