Navy working on Rohingyas’ rehabilitation at Bhasan Char

Bangladesh Navy is working speedily for the rehabilitation of Rohingyas in Bhasan Char in Noakhali, Rear Admiral MS Azam informed a parliamentary body on Wednesday.

He made the remark at the 27th meeting of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence Ministry, held at the Jatiya Sangsad with its chairman Shubid Ali Bhuiyan in the chair, said a handout.

Maj Gen Md Siddiqur Rahman informed the committee that Bangladesh Army has already set up 10,000 toilets for Rohingya people who fled persecution in Rakhine State of Myanmar.

He said the army has also been working relentlessly in setting up makeshift camps for Rohingyas and distribution of relief items among them as per the Prime Minister’s directive.

The parliamentary watchdog asked the ministry to arrange a trip for the committee members to see the army’s works at Rohingya camps in Ukhia of Cox’s Bazar.

Committee members Mohammad Faruk Khan, Md Mahbubur Rahman, Md Elias Uddin Mollah, Mahmud Us Samad and Hosne Ara Begum attended the meeting.

Senior officials of Army, Navy and Air Force were present.
