Myanmar disagree to Bangladesh’s 10-point proposal: Kamal

Bangladesh could not form a joint working group with Myanmar for repatriating the Rohingya refugees as the Burmese authorities has not agreed to the 10-point proposal put forth by Bangladesh.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal revealed this to the reporters at an event on Friday afternoon assuring that the refugee crisis will be solved through dialogue.

The minister said that the government is still in dialogue with Myanmar about the repatriation of the Rohingya refugees.

“We could not form a joint working group because they did not agree to the 10 points,” he said.

It would be constituted before November 30, he added.

“We are still talking to them and we believe the problems will be solved through dialogue,” he said.

Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali is scheduled to visit Myanmar on November 30, Khan said.

“I met with Myanmar’s State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, home minister and deputy home minister. We held lengthy meetings with people from all levels.

We told them the five points raised by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the United Nations and the Kofi Annan Commission’s demands need to be implemented,” the minister said.

Kamal told Suu Kyi that unless Rohingyas are repatriated, they could get involved in terrorist activities which would not be a good situation for either of the countries.

“They edited the points and later sent us a draft of 10 points. We will look into them and send them our response,” he added.
