Nahid elected Vice President of 39th UNESCO Gen Conf

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has been elected as the Vice President for the 39th Session of the UNESCO General Conference at its headquarters in Paris. 

He is leading the Bangladesh delegation at the ongoing General Conference that began on October 30 and will continue till November 14. 

The conference is being attended by the ministers and senior officials of 195 member states, 10 associate members and various UN agencies, media and NGOs. 

Nahid will serve as the Vice President of the UNESCO General Conference for the term of 2017-2019. 

He also served as the Vice President of the 38th Session of UNESCO General Conference for 2015-2017 term.

Zohour Alaoui from Morocco has been elected as the President of the running conference. 

On November 4, Nahid will deliver national statement on the general policy debate of the conference. 

Before that on November 1, as the chair of the E-9 Forum, Nahid will meet the ministers and the heads of the delegation of E-9 countries. 

The Bangladesh delegation comprised of secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division Md Sohorab Hossain, Ambassador-Designate and Permanent Delegation of Bangladesh to UNESCO Kazi Imtiaz Hossain, additional secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division Chowdhury Mufad Ahmed and secretary of the Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO (BNCU) Md Monjur Hossain, among others.
