Kakrail double murder: Prime accused held in Gopalganj

Rab today arrested the prime accused of a case filed in connection with the killing of Shamsun Nahar Karim and her son Shaown in Kakrail of Dhaka.

Tipped off, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Al Amin alias Jhony, 32, from Gopalganj in a drive this morning.

Jhony, elder brother of Sharmin Akter Mukta, 25, who is the third wife of Abdul Karim, husband of Nahar, primarily confessed to the Rab that he killed the duo.

The Rab will brief about the drive this afternoon.

An official of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), who is also a supervising officer of the double murder case, said that Jhony stabbed Shamsun Nahar to death on that day.

As the victim’s son saw the murder taking place, Jhony killed also him, added the official.

Jhony and Mukta had planned the murder in Rangamati six month back, he added.      

On Wednesday, police recovered the bodies of Nahar, 46, and her son Sajjadul Karim Shaown, 17, around 6:30pm.

Ashraf, brother of Nahar, filed a case with Ramna Police Station against Karim, Mukta, Jhony and several other unidentified people in connection with the double murder.

Meanwhile, after a namaj-e-janaza at Ramna circuit house premises two sons of Nahar and classmates of her son Shaown demanded punishment to the criminals.

The bodies of the victims will be buried today in Munshiganj Sadar upazila.
