Passenger and guard held aboard Biman plane for gold smuggling

Officials of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) arrested  two men, including a security guard of Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh (CAAB), with 580 grams of gold from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday.

The arrested were identified as Rezaul Karim, a security guard of CAAB and son of late Mohammad Ali Mandal of Kamelashwar village in Gazipur Sadar, and Kuddus Shikdar, a passenger of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, flight BG-40 which landed at the airport around 3:15pm.

CIID Director General Dr Moinul Khan said based on secret information, Customs Intelligence held Kuddus and Rezaul along with five gold bars weighing 580 grams from the toilet of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane used for the flight from Riyadh to Dhaka.

Kuddus had arrived from the Saudi capital and was trying to hand over the gold bars to Razaul in the toilet, Moinul Khan added.
