Train-covered van collision kills one in Dinajpur

A man was killed as a train collided with a covered-van at Baropukuria coalmine level crossing early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Biplob, 22, helper of the covered van and son of Joynal Abedin, hailing from Gobindapur of Nilphamari Sadar.

Parbatipur Railway-Police Station sub-inspector Khokon Chandra said an oil-laden Khulna-bound train hit a Parbatipur-bound covered van which was stuck on the track around 5:30 am, leaving its helper, who drove the vehicle, dead on the spot.

The driver, however, managed to flee the spot, he added.
