Mayor Annisul’s body arrives today

The body of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq will be brought to Dhaka by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight today.

He will be buried at Banani graveyard in the capital following a namaz-e-janaza at Army Stadium after Asr prayers on Saturday.

In a press release, DNCC Public Relations Officer ASM Mamun said the body of the late mayor will arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 11:30am.

Family members and DNCC officials will be present at the airport to receive his body. The body will be taken to his Banani residence at first.

Later, the body of Annisul will be taken to Army Stadium at 3:00pm where people from all walks of life will pay their last tributes to the mayor.

Then, he will be buried at Banani graveyard after his second namaz-e-janaza at the Army Stadium after Asr prayers.

The first namaz-e-janaza of Annisul Huq was held at Regent Park Central Mosque in London after Jum’a prayers on Friday.

Meanwhile, President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, National Parliament Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Deputy Leader of the House Syed Sazeda Chowdhury, Leader of the Opposition Rawshan Ershad, Opposition BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Bikalpadhara Bangladesh president Badruddoza Chowdhury, in separate messages, expressed deep shock at the death of Annisul Huq.

LGRD Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal and Minister for Science and Technology architect Yafes Osman, among others, expressed profound shock at his demise.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan too expressed his deepest condolence at the sad demise of Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq.

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Bangabandhu Gabeshana Parishad, Bangladesh Trade Union Centre (BTUC) and Nagar Unnayan Sangbadik Forum, Bangladesh also expressed deep shock at his death.

Meanwhile, the DNCC is observing three days of mourning from Friday following the death of mayor Annisul.

Annisul was elected mayor of DNCC with Awami League ticket in April 2015.

He established his own business, ‘Mohammadi Group’ in 1986.

He was the former president of several apex bodies, including South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and Independent Power Producers Association.

Annisul Huq, also a successful businessmen and popular television programme host, who had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in London for neurological problem, passed away there at 10:23pm (Bangladesh time) on Thursday. He was 65.

Annisul is survived by his wife, son, two daughters and a host of friends and relatives.

He had been kept on life support since Monday as his condition deteriorated. Later, doctors found infection in his lungs. Earlier, he was diagnosed with cerebral vasculitis at the hospital.

Doctors of the hospital removed the ventilation apparatus from his mouth at 10:23pm, declaring him dead.

Annisul was diagnosed with cerebral vasculitis at a London neurology hospital after he was admitted to it on August 13. Later, he was taken to the intensive care unit of the hospital. The DNCC mayor was shifted from the ICU to another hospital on October 31 for physiotherapy after his condition improved. He flew to London in the last week of July on personal tour with his family members.

Annisul Huq was born on October 27, 1952, in Kobirhat, Noakhali. Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq is the brother of Annisul Huq.
