BNP men clash with cops in Dhaka

BNP activists clashed with police and reportedly set fire to a motorbike and vandalised a number of vehicles as the law enforcers intercepted their procession in Bakshibazar area of Dhaka this afternoon.

Several hundred leaders and activists of the party brought out the procession in the secretariat area around 3:30pm after BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia came out of a court after giving her self-statement in connection with graft cases, said Maruf Hossain Sardar, deputy commissioner of DMP (Ramna zone).

The BNP men went on rampage as police intercepted the procession, triggering a clash with the law enforcers, the police official said.

They also set fire to a motorbike and vandalised many vehicle during the clash, he said adding that police picked up 20 to 25 people from the spot.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today got bail in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases after she surrendered before a makeshift court in Bakhshibazar of Dhaka.
