Momin murder: High Court upholds death for 2

The High Court has upheld the trial court’s death sentences for two people and life in prison for six others in the sensational Kamrul Islam Momin murder case.

The High Court bench of Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam delivered the verdict after hearing the death reference of the case and the appeals filed by Habibur and Babu.

In 2011, the trial court awarded the death penalty to three people and sentenced to life six others.

The HC abated Rafiqul from the sentence as he has already died.

The prime suspect and death row convict, then officer-in-charge of Motijheel Police Station AKM Rafiqul Islam died in prison in December 2015.

Momin, 22, a student of Dhaka Commerce College was shot dead near his Ibrahimpur residence in the capital city on September 13, 2005.

The two other death row accused are Shakhawat Hossain Jewel and Tareq alias Zia. They are absconding.

The six are: Monir Howlader, Hasibul Haque Johnny, Jafar Ahmed, Sharifuddin, Habibur Rahman Taj and Thoth Ucha Babu.
