The Appellate Division of Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the High Court order that halted the proceedings of a case filed for corruption in embankment of haor areas in Sunamganj that caused massive losses during last year’s flashflood.

A five-member bench headed by acting Chief Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam said with the fresh SC order there will be no bar from now to resume the probe in this connection.

Earlier on December 12 High Court stayed the proceedings of the case for three months after hearing writ petition filed by one of the accused in the case Bachchu Mia and also issued a rule seeking explanation as to why the case will not be declared illegal.

The court today also asked the High Court to dispose the rule on Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in this regard.

On July 2, ACC assistant director Faruq Ahmed filed the corruption case against 61 people including several officials of Water Development Board and contractors with Sunamganj Police Station.
