With a view to boosting people-to-people connectivity, the bus service has been launched in five routes between Bangladesh and India.

The new service was launched at the BRTC International Bus Terminal in Dhaka's Kamlapur on Friday morning.

The bus service under the international route named Shayamoli NR Travels, will cover Dhaka-Kolkata route, Dhaka- Shilong- Guwahati route, Dhaka-Khulna-Kolkata route, Agartala-Dhaka Kolkata route, and Dhaka-Agartala route.

Secretary of road transport and highways division of the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry Md. Nazrul Islam and chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BTRC) Farid Ahmed Bhuiyan inaugurated the service.

Joint secretary of the road transport and highways division Md Ehsan E Elahi, managing director of NR Travels Rakesh Gosh, and other officials of the ministry and the BRTC were present.

The buses have become a popular mode of transport between West Bengal and Tripura via Dhaka due to non-availability of air tickets.

Mentionable that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly flagged off the Dhaka-Shillong-Guwahati and Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala bus services during Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh around three years ago.
