A wall has collapsed at a construction site near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka killing one worker and injuring several others.

The dead worker has been identified as 50-year-old Mostafa.

He was declared dead after being rushed to the Bangladesh Medical College Hospital, said Assistant Superintendent of Police Bhuiyan Mahbub Hasan.

The wall built for construction of a sewerage line along the airport’s customs house, collapsed around 11am Tuesday, said airport police OC Nur-e-Azam.

“The workers fell into the drain. Fire fighters are trying to remove the collapsed wall and take out the workers. The total number of victims will be known once the rescue drive ends.”

Five fire-fighting units were active on the scene, said fire service duty officer Ataur Rahman.
