3 killed in Gopalganj road crash

At least three people were killed and seven others injured as a bus hit three human-haulers after knocking down two pedestrians at Kathi on Gopalganj-Kotalipara road in Sadar upazila on Thursday noon.

The deceased were identified as Abul Kalam Mollah, 45, son of Majed Mollah of Kathi village, Al Amin, 50, son of Jamat Mollah of Khanarpar village, and Hamim, 35, of Golabaria village.

Officer-in-charge of Gopalganj Police Station Golam Faruk said the Gopalganj-bound bus of ‘Mayer Doa Paribahan’ hit two passersby around 12 noon.

Later, it crashed into three human-haulers while trying to flee after the accident, leaving two people dead on the spot and seven others injured.

One of the injured died on the way to hospital, the OC said.

Agitated locals torched the bus and blocked the road, halting vehicular movement.

Police brought the situation under control around 1:30 pm while firefighters doused the flame.
