Biman employees held with 9kg gold

Customs officials detained two employees of Biman Bangladesh Airlines along with 9.280 kg gold worth Tk 40.65 million at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Thursday.

The detainees are Shahinur Islam and Khandaker Ruhul Amin, flight catering service pantry-men of the national flag carrier.

Deputy commission of Dhaka Customs House Othello Chowdhury said a Biman flight from Jeddah landed at the airport around 5:30pm.

After the all the passengers disembarked from the flight, Shahin and Ruhul entered the aircraft with trolleys to bring the discarded packets of food, he said.

A customs preventive team searched the trolleys after they came out of the plane and found four packets in two boxes.

They recovered 20 gold bars wrapped in scotch tape from each of the packets, Othello added.
