38 shops gutted in Ctg fire

At least 38 shops were gutted in a fire in a market at Nayabazar under Patenga Police Station in the port city on early Saturday.

Witlessness said the fire broke from an electric short-circuit in a shop around 4:45am and soon spread to the adjacent shops.

On information, four firefighting units from EPZ and Port Fire Service & Civil Defense rushed in and doused the flame after one and a half hours of frantic efforts, said Prahalad Kumar Singh, Assistant Director of Agrabad Fire Service and Civil Defense.

The extent of loss caused by the fire was estimated at Tk 10 lakh, he said.
