DMP's special unit detains two ABT militants

The newly formed unit Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) last night picked up two operatives of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).

The two arrestees are Md Omar Faruk alias Mahadi alias Abdullah and Md Tarikul Islam. Police also recovered different jihadi books, leaflets, three mobile phones, clippings of radical video and audio and some other documents.

In the primary investigation, the arrestees confessed that they use Facebook as a tool to recruit members in their gang. They also use the social networking sites to communicate among themselves.

"They also confessed that they were looking for places in Ali Kadam area of Bandarban and Fatikchari in Chittagong to raise their training base. They were planning to carry out couple of subversive acts in the capital at the end of this month. They were also plotting to cause huge casualties by hurling petrol bombs on a jatra manch in Bhola," a police release said.
