Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said here today that by using different names , BNP-Jamaat combine has been trying to create anarchy in the country unleashing subversive acts.

"There is no existence of IS (Islamic state) in the country. Secret
killings had been carried out with a view to destabilise the government," he said.

Hanif said this in reply to questions of local journalists emerging from a view exchange meeting with Kushtia District Awami League (AL) leaders and workers at his PTI residence in the town.

In response to another query, the AL leader said, "The persons against whom cases have been filed are brought under the purview of the law. None is above the law and law will take its own course. If allegations are raised against anybody, he/she would have to abide by the laws of the land whatever might be his/her social position."

In regard to recent warning of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir that a dangerous situation will be created if his party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is arrested, Hanif said, "Posing threat on a legal matter means that they (BNP) are not respectful to the laws of the land. Following BNP's disrespect towards the laws, incidents like terrorism, anarchy and subversive acts have been taking place in the country."

Kushtia District AL general secretary Azgar Ali, vice-president Motiar Rahman Majnu, organising secretary Sheikh Hasan Mehdi and City AL general secretary Ataur Rahman Ata were present, among others.

Later, Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif laid the foundation stone of a new building of Kushtia District Bar Association.
