Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the government has no political intention to arrest BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

"As a minister of the government, I can say there is no political intention to arrest Begum Zia," he said while inspecting the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) bus depot and ongoing drive against the illegal four-wheeler (leguna) manufacturing factory here this morning.

He categorically said the BRTC authority would continue its drive against unauthorized motor vehicles and illegal factories.

Referring to the leguna manufacturing in Gazipur changing the old microbuses, the minister said magistrates attached with the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) will take necessary steps against the people involved in such corrupt practices.

"There are many problems in the transport sector and it's not possible to remove all overnight, but we need the change of our mindset first," he observed.

Quader, also ruling Awami League Presidium Member, stressed the need for building mass awareness and vigorous campaign in this regard.

He also urged all concerned to take lesson from the legal and disciplinary action taken against the wrongdoers or the rules' violators.

The minister also directed the BRTC chairman to take necessary action against the BRTC depot manager of Nogpara area in Gazipur City Corporation for his alleged in negligence of duty.

Senior officials of the concerned ministry and department, police officials and local political party leaders accompanied the minister.
