3 ‘drug peddlers’ killed in RAB ‘gunfight’

Three alleged drug peddlers were killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Abhaynagar upazila of Jessore early today.

The deceased are Abul Kalam, 46, Milon Kasari, 39, and Habibur Rahman, 36, and they are all from Model Ward no-4 area in the upazila, said a Rab official.

A team of Rab intercepted the three around 3:00am when they were crossing a check post set up on Payra-Noapara road on a motorcycle, said Lt Col Jahid Hasan, commanding officer of Rab-6. 

Sensing danger, the trio opened fire at the elite force members, forcing the team to fire back that triggered a “gunfight”, the rab official said.

The three alleged criminals were hit by bullets during the “gun battle”.

They were taken Abhaynagar upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead, said the Rab official.

Two Rab members Jewel and Sayem were injured in the alleged gunfight.

The Rab team also recovered 400 bottles of Phensidyl, two pistols, five bullets, one Chinese machete and one magazine from the spot, added Lt Col Jahid Hasan.
