Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained five members of banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), in a drive carried out in Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj early Wednesday (May 30).

The detainees are identified as—Khairul Islam, 48, Selim Reza, 26, Ziaul Haque alias Akbar Ali, 39, Nawshad Ali, 50, and Shakil Ahmed, 35.

Seven jihadi books, five mobile phone sets, eight SIM cards, two memory cards, two NID cards, a passport, a passport size photograph and a computer hard-disk loaded with video files were seized from their possession, RAB-5 Commander Lt Col Mahabubul Alam told media at a briefing at his office, in the morning.

Four JMB members were earlier detained in a drive in Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj on May 14. On information from them, RAB started an investigation.

Tipped-off, RAB launched a drive in Fazilpur village under Godagari upazila of Rajshahi at the night, on information that several JMB members were holding a secret meeting to initiate sabotage activity.

Khairul Islam and Selim Reza were detained from the village. On information from the duo, the three others were nabbed from their respective homes in Chapainawabganj sadar upazila.

They have admitted of being involved in JMB, said the RAB commander.

They used to recruit new members and collect money for their ‘Yanat’ fund, he added.

Legal action will be taken against all of them, the RAB commander said further.
