The standing committee on ministry of foreign affairs has recommended gearing up diplomatic activity with Russia and China to resolve the Rohingya crisis.

The committee also recommended quick repatriation of Rohingyas to Myanmar and to ensure their security.

These recommendations were made at a meeting of the committee in parliament on Thursday.  Standing committee chairperson Dipu Moni presided over the meeting. Others present included foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali, Faruk Khan and Kazi Nabil Ahmed.

In a press statement of the parliament secretariat, it was said that the committee drew the attention of the civil aviation and tourism ministry to modernise and expand the Cox’s Bazar airport as the heads of the governments and representatives of different countries visit Rohingya camps.

According to members at the meeting, the foreign ministry presented the diplomatic steps taken to solve the Rohingya crisis.

On 16 February, a list of 8032 Rohingyas was sent to the home ministry of Myanmar for verification. So far the verification of 1045 Rohingyas has been completed.

Out of this list, Myanmar government repeatedly expressed interest to repatriate 444 Hindu men and 778 Muslims determined by Myanmar. But these people are not verified.
