DC conference begins

The three-day annual conference of the deputy commissioners (DCs), the administrative heads at the district level, has begun in the capital today.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the conference at her office in the morning, Cabinet Division Secretary (Coordination and Reforms) NM Ziaul Alam said at a press briefing on Monday.

After the inauguration, she will take part in the open discussion session of the conference with the deputy commissioners.

The prime minister usually listens to details of demands from the deputy commissioners in the conference. Then she gives them necessary instructions.

The Cabinet Division secretary said 347 proposals made by the DCs will be discussed in the conference.

The main topics of the conference are land management, development of law and order, local government establishments, disaster management, relief and rehabilitation, and poverty eradication, he continued.

The conference will also discuss social security, use of information and communication technologies, development of quality of education, health services and development activities and implementation of the activities, he maintained.

The Cabinet Division secretary said the DCs will also meet President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban during the conference at 7:30pm on Wednesday.

During the conference, 58 ministries and divisions of the government will discuss the proposals from the deputy commissioners to make a work plan for next year.

They will also review the implementations of the decisions taken in last year’s conference.

The cabinet division arranges the DC conference every year to make an opportunity for deputy commissioners to hold talks with the divisional commissioners and high policy makers of the government.

During the annual conference, the DCs are given instructions, including policy, ideology and priorities of the government, from the higher policy makers.

In the presence of ministers, state ministers, deputy ministers and advisers to the Prime Minister, the proposals are discussed at different sessions of the conference with the cabinet secretary in the chair.
