A Cumilla district Awami League leader and former upazila parishad chairman was reportedly abducted by unidentified miscreants from the capital’s Lalmatia area on Friday.

The victim is Parvez Hossain Sarker, a member of district (North) Awami League of Cumilla and former Titas upazila parishad chairman.

The miscreants dragged Parvez into a Pajero jeep around 2pm while he was returning home after saying his Jum'a prayers at Lalmatia Minar Mosque, police said quoting witnesses.

Separate teams of law enforcement agencies visited the spot and collected footage of CCTVs installed in nearby houses, said Jamal Uddin Mir, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station.

According to CCTV footage, victim’s maternal uncle Quamrul Hossain, said a person wearing a pair of pants and a T-shirt shook hands with Parvez.

Suddenly, another person having long hair pushed him from behind and a Pajero jeep bearing number Dhaka Metro Gha-14-2577 along with some motorcycles appeared in scene and they dragged Parvez to the vehicle and left the scene in no time, he added.

Parvez has been living in Dhanmondi Road-27 residence along with his wife and two sons for the last eight years, Quamrul added.

Victim’s wife Tahmina Afroz said her husband went to mosque to say his Juma prayers. “Seeing chaos on the street by our house, I got down and came to know that some miscreants abducted my husband,” she said.

Parvez had long been at loggerheads with his political rivals over establishing supremacy in Titas upazila, Tahmina claimed.

Meanwhile, the victim’s wife filed a general dairy with Mohammadpur Police Station in the evening, said the OC of the police station.
