Ex Shibir man held over murder of SP Babul's wife

Police detained this morning a former activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir for his alleged link with the murder of the wife of Superintendent of Police Babul Akter.

Police captured Abu Nasur Gunnu, aged about 40, from Farhadabad area of Hathazari upazila of the district, Devdas Bhattacharya, additional commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) said.

Devdas told journalists that Abu Nasur Gunnu who hails from Sitakunda upazila of the district was involved with Jamaat-e-Islami's students wing Islami Chhatra Shibir politics during 1995 to 2009. 

Gunnu later went to Middle East and integrated himself with the activities of a shrine after returning from abroad a few days back. 

"Afterwards, he got involved with terrorist activities and we have information about his link with the militant activities", Debdas said adding that he would be placed into remand for more information of the most sensational murder of a wife of high police official. 

Superintendent of Police Babul Aktar's wife Mahmuda Khanom Mitu was killed in a suspected militant attack near GEC intersection on Sunday morning.

She was stabbed and shot in the head by three men while advancing her 6-year-old son for availing school bus within the vicinity of her residence.
