Today is the first anniversary of the influx of Rohingyas from Myanmar into Bangladesh, but there is still no tangible headway in their repatriation.

A Rohingya crisis has stepped into the first anniversary today with no real progress in the repatriation process for unwillingness of Myanmar, many said.

Rohingya people keep on entering into Bangladesh at the behest of Myanmar authorities — let alone repatriation, they added.

Bangladesh is bearing the brunt of Myanmar security forces of which brutal persecution led to the displacement of the Muslim ethnic minority from their homes in Rakhine state.

They started to arrive in coastal and hilly Cox’s Bazar area on August 25, fleeing barbaric persecution against them.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina provided the displaced Rohingyas with food, shelter, healthcare and other necessary facilities on humanitarian grounds.

She has been globally lauded and recognised as “mother of humanity” for her magnanimity to the hapless Rohingya people.

Rohingya exodus occurred in the past, but their recent influx broke all previous records, taking a heavy toll on the Muslim-majority country’s socio-economy.

Myanmar agreed on the repatriation of its displaced people to their homes in Rakhine under international pressure.

The country sent representatives to Bangladesh, but has not taken any substantial steps to take its people back.

Myanmar has resorted to illicit tactics and conspiracy not to take back its citizens.
