UP chairman held over Naogaon gun attack

A union parishad chairman has been arrested in a case filed over gun attack at a lottery raffle draw programme at Kofilia High School ground in Raninagar upazila.

The accused is Abul Hasnat Khan Hasan, chairman of Gona union parishad.

Three people, including Robayet Hossain, 13, of Bhobanipur Mandalpara area in the upazila and a sixth-grader of Kofilia High School in Betgari bazar area, sustained bullet injuries in the gun attack on a gathering at Ghoshgram village in Raninagar upazila on Friday night.

Later, Robayet’s father Jaber Ali filed a case with against unnamed people on Saturday afternoon.

Md Iqbal Hossain, superintendent of Naogaon Police, handed over the case to Detective Branch of police for investigation.

Later, a team of DB detained the UP chairman for interrogation. After interrogation, he was shown arrested in the case.

Police also arrested Ashikuzzaman Rabbi, 30, son of late Motiur Rahman of Bhabanipur village, in connection with the incident.

Rabbi in his statement under section 164 confessed his involvement in the attack and revealed several names, said Md Abdullahil Jaman, inspector of district DB police.
