Awami League Presidium Member and Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today said BNP Chief Begum Khaleda Zia is suffering from severe depression as she has become isolated by not participating in the last general election.

"Khaleda Zia was suffering from severe depression for her uncertain future and isolation....Khaleda has broken down to such an extent that his mental condition is now unstable," he said. He was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion with AL activists at his residence at Gazipur road in Bhola with Upazila AL President and Upazila Chairman Mosharraf Hossain in the chair.

"A free and fair election was held, the government was formed, the whole world accepted and congratulated the new government, but she found nothing," he said.

"Instead of showing courtesy she is demonstrating aggressiveness ...Where global leaders are praising our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina profusely, Khaleda was trying to offend her (PM) and this is the outcome of her depression," he added.

The Minister said, "The government has taken initiatives to sell essential commodities at fair prices from the city and divisional towns during Ramadan, so the consumers can buy foods and other stuffs as per their ability ... The purchasing power of the people has increased only for the foresightedness of the Prime Minister."

"The work of river erosion project of Taka 400 in Bhola approved by Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) will start soon. Besides, other developmental works of Taka 13 crore were underway on emergency basis to check river erosion and river navigability," He added.
