Protesters demanding reinstatement of freedom fighters' 30 percent quota in class-I and class-II government jobs are continuing their demonstration in the city's Shahbagh area for the fourth straight day.

Several hundred protesters started thronging at the busy intersection around 2:30pm as part of their earlier announcement to stage a ‘grand rally’ aggravating the traffic situation.

Under the banner of newly formed platform “Muktijuddho Moncho”, the protesters put barriers at the intersection and sat on the streets chanting slogans.

A number of beneficiaries of freedom fighters’ quota on Wednesday started the demonstration at Shahbagh intersection protesting the government decision of cancelling the quota system from class-I and class-II jobs.

The government took the decision following series of countrywide agitation by general students demanding reformation of the quota system in which 56 percent of government jobs were reserved for candidates of various quotas, while the remaining 44 percent is drawn from applications on the merit list.

On Thursday, the government issued a circular abolishing the quota system for class-I and class-II jobs in civil service.
