Attorney General Mahbubey Alam today said it will not be difficult for the government to bring back BNP leader Tarique Rahman, who has been convicted in August 21 grenade attack cases.

Tarique Rahman cannot seek political asylum abroad as he has been sentenced to life imprisonment, he said while taking to reporters at his office in the Supreme Court premises.

The Attorney General said, international laws do not support political asylum for a convict.

He said his office will decide whether an appeal will be moved before High Court seeking enhancement of punishment for Tarique Rahman in August 21 grenade attack cases after getting the full text of judgment.

Advocate Mabubey Alam also said his office will take steps for quick hearing on the death reference of the Aug 21 grenade attack cases.

Earlier on Wednesday, Law Minister Anisul Huq told reporters that the government will take steps to bring the fugitive convicts including Tarique back to the country to put them on trial.
