243 held in special drives with arms in Ctg

Chittagong district police in a series of overnight special drives arrested at least 243 people from different areas in the district during the last 24 hours. 

He said that they also seized two light guns and four cartridges, 2527 pieces contraband Yaba tablets and three kilogram Ganza during the drive. 

Reazaul Masud, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district, said district police held the persons including eight Jamaat-Shibir activists and other accused from different upazilas of the district for their alleged involvement in sabotage acts and vandalism. 

The persons arrested from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning's operations include members of Jamaat-e-Islami, its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir and many others who are absconding. 

Police, however, could not confirm the number of the members of militant outfits among the detainees.
