Election Commission to declare JS poll schedule on November 8

The schedule for the 11th parliamentary election will be announced on November 8 (Thursday), said Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury on Sunday.

The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda will announce the polls schedule on the day. Bangladesh Television (BTV) will broadcast the live announcement on Thursday evening.

Election will be hold within 45 days of the announcement of the election schedule, said the commissioner.

The commissioner said earlier we had decided to announce the schedule on November 4 but in today’s meeting the commission decided to announce it on November 8, Shahadat Hossain said.

On Saturday, Jatiya Oikya Front has urged the Election Commission not to announce a schedule for the next general election until the ongoing dialogue between political parties concludes.

The newly-forged alliance made the call in a letter sent by its convener and Gana Froum president Dr Kamal Hossain to the EC.

Is the commission delayed the announcement after considering this appeal, the commissioner said after considering all circumstances they decided to announce the schedule on November 8.

The then CEC Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced the schedule of the 10th parliamentary elections by addressing the nation on November 15, 2013.

The national election was held on January 5, 2014.
