Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said the Jatiya  Oikyafront’s demand for dissolution of parliament and holding polls within 90 days of its dissolution could not be granted as it is unconstitutional.

“The Oikyafront leaders demanded dissolution of parliament, holding polls within 90 days of its dissolution and formation of a 10-member neutral government with advisors, but it cannot be accepted as nothing will be done going beyond the constitution,” Quader said.

He said this while briefing reporters after a three-hour dialogue between the leaders of Jatiya Oikyafront and Sheikh Hasina –led 14-party alliance at Ganobhaban.

Terming the demand of Jatiya Oikyafront to defer the election schedule an excuse, Obaidul Quader said if the election schedule is deferred evil forces can emerge and a 1/11-like situation can be created.

He said a level-paying field will be created for holding a credible election but nothing will be done going beyond the Constitution.

The Prime Minister urged the Oikyafront leaders to take part in the election as a level-playing field will be created for making the election acceptable, said Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister.

“We’ve no objection to creating a level-playing field, inviting foreign observers and releasing political prisoners. Our leader Sheikh Hasina assured them of fulfilling these demands. These demands will be fulfilled after the announcement of the election schedule,” he added.

Quader went on saying, “After the announcement of the election schedule, ministers will not enjoy any government facilities, including government houses, circuit houses, national flag and others. There will be no power of MPs. We’ll get the same facilities as Oikyafront leaders and other candidates. The Election commission will ensure these.”

Besides, army will be deployed as a striking force, the AL leader said.

“If Khaleda Zia is a real political prisoner, then her release in parole will be considered and the Law Minister was given the necessary instructions in this regard,” Quader said.

He also said the Prime Minister accepted most of the seven demands placed by the Oikyafront.
