Candidates who wish to run in the 11th general election will have to submit their nomination papers between November 9 and November 19.

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda made the announcement while addressing the nation from the Election Commission office in Dhaka's Agargaon on Thursday evening.

During the speech, which was aired on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar, he also declared that the next general polls would be held on December 23.

The nomination papers of the aspirants would be evaluated on November 22, while an aspirant would be able to withdraw his or her candidacy by November 29, he added.

This time, the candidates will be able to submit their nomination papers both online and manually.

This became possible through the amendments to the Representation of the People Order (RPO) that were made last month.

Alongside this provision, the amendments also made possible the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the parliamentary polls.

The Election Commission plans to use 150,000 EVMs in at least 100 randomly selected constituencies across the country during the vote.
