Awami League selling nomination papers for the 2nd consecutive day

The sale of Awami League's nomination papers has been started for the second consecutive day for the forthcoming 11th parliamentary elections.

AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader inaugurated the sale of nomination forms at AL president’s Dhanmondi political office around 10:00am  on Friday by purchasing a nomination paper on behalf of party president Sheikh Hasina.

On the first day, a total of 1,328 nomination forms were sold, AL office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap told the media.

Awami League sold 206 nomination forms in Dhaka, 129 in Rangpur, 195 in Khulna, 221 in Chattagram, 184 in Rajshahi, 154 in Barisal, 78 in Sylhet and 161 in Mymensingh.

Quader bought two forms for Sheikh Hasina. One of the forms was bought for contesting the election from Gopalganj-3 (Tungipara-Kotalipara). Later, he handed over the forms to AL's Religious Affairs Secretary Sheikh Abdullah.

Obaidul Quader said the name of the constituency for which the other form was bought will be disclosed later.

He bought another form for Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury for contesting the polls from Rangpur-6 and handed over it to Deputy Speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah.

Later, AL joint secretary Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif bought another form for AL general secretary Quader to contest the polls from Noakhali-5 constituency.

In his introductory speech on the occasion, Quader said the selling of nomination forms started amid huge enthusiasm of the party followers.

Responding to a query, he said the last date for selling nomination form will be fixed after a meeting of AL Parliamentary Board to be held with its president Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

The party has fixed Tk 30,000 as the price for each nomination form.

A total of eight booths have been opened for selling the forms.

The 11th parliamentary elections will be held on December 23. According to the schedule, the last date for filing nomination papers for candidacy is November 19. The returning officers will scrutinise the nomination papers on November 22 while the last date for withdrawing candidature is November 29.
