People must boycott BNP in next polls: Hanif

Joint General Secretary of the ruling Awami League Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said here today people would boycott BNP in the upcoming national election due to its involvement in terrorism and corruption.

“BNP is well established as a party of terrorism and corruption in home and abroad. So, people of the country would never accept the party. They as usual would boycott the party in the upcoming general polls,” he said in a view exchange meeting with local leaders and activities of the AL and its front organizations at his Kushtia residence.

Referring to terrorism and arson attacks carried out by the BNP, the AL leader said, “BNP has long been isolated from the people for its terrorist activities. They are doing politics with Begum Khaleda Zia as the party has no right to make any appeal before the people”.

Hanif made the remarks in reply to the BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s allegation of delivering verdict hurriedly against detained Begum Khaleda Zia in a false case.

“We have said many times the corruption case was filed against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia during the tenure of the caretaker government and the court gave verdict against him on the basis of evidence,” he continued.

Regarding independent candidates of his party in the upcoming national polls, he also said, “Organisational action will be taken against independent candidates.”

Among others, Kushtia district AL senior vice-president Hazi Rabiul Islam, general secretary Ajgar Ali, town AL president Taijal Ali Khan, were present on the occasion.
